While serving as a pastor, God planted a burden in Jim’s heart as he watched an increasing number of his colleagues leave the pastorate every year.  In a paper entitled, "Who Will Help the Healer?, Dr. Binney proposed a ministry to address the needs of pastors and their families. He envisioned a place where they could go for help – a retreat from the pressures of ministry and a place where they could have the balm of Gilead applied to their wounded spirits.

Through an exciting display of God's leading, a retreat facility opened up -- the former seasonal estate of the late Agnes Moorehead, a well-known actress of television and movies.  The Binneys arrived at Moorehead Manor in 1989 and immediately began ministering to couples in full-time ministry who were in need of help and comfort.

During the early days of the ministry, Jim and his wife Sandra counseled hundreds of couples, traveled to hundreds of retreats and seminars, fielded untold numbers of phone calls and letters, answering questions and offering counsel, encouragement, and hope.  Every day became busier and more demanding as they ministered to the best of people at the worst of times.

From that humble beginning, the Lord raised up L.E.A.D. Ministries, a national non-profit ministry that has reached thousands of people with the biblical message of hope and life-transforming truth.  In 2001 the Binneys moved the ministry from Ohio to the upstate of South Carolina in the beautiful Greenville area.

Jim no longer has his loving wife Sandra to be his help meet. She lost her physical battle with cancer in April of 2009 but won her rewards and crowns for a work well done.  He now has a staff that has captured Jim and Sandra’s vision and joined in the work of holding up his arms during this intense spiritual battle. Satan has become savage in these last days, fighting to destroy church leadership and Christian families.

Join us in prayer as the vision continues to grow through counseling, counselor training, writing and publishing, retreats and seminars, as well as our recently begun radio ministry.
