Dr. Jim Binney was reared in the home of a Baptist preacher who founded and pastored the Miller Road Baptist Church of Garland, Texas. Born November 12, 1945, in Dallas Texas, his family soon moved to Indiana where he grew up on a farm near the small town of Converse. As a teenager, he dropped out of school and ran away from home. He was encouraged to enroll in Bob Jones Academy; and it was there, at the age of sixteen, that he found Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He graduated from the academy and entered Bob Jones University spending a total of five years on the campus. He also attended Purdue University and Tennessee Temple College before entering the U.S. Navy. After a tour of duty aboard a minesweeper, and a stint as a Chaplains' Assistant, he enrolled in the Hospital Corps School and graduated as a Hospital Corpsman (Medic). He then served in the Neurosurgical Clinic and Emergency Room at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital.
Following his discharge, he continued his studies culminating in a Doctor's Degree (D.Min.) from the American University of Biblical Studies.
Dr. Binney's experience in ministry includes over two years of youth work as Youth Pastor. He also founded and pastored the Heritage Baptist Church of Foxboro, Massachusetts, and then moved to Holland, Michigan where he was the Senior Pastor of the Rose Park Baptist Church for ten years. Here, he founded and administered the Rose Park Baptist Academy for seven years. While in Michigan, he and his church school were involved in a three year legal struggle with the State of Michigan for which he was awarded a "Defender" award by the Christian Law Association.
He served as President of the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship, an independent statewide organization of pastors, for eight years. He was also a member of the executive committee of the Fundamental Christian Coalition, an organization representing over 700 churches in Michigan and responsible for introducing some needed legislation.
He then served as Senior Pastor of the Cornerstone Baptist Church of Fayetteville, North Carolina where he administered the Cornerstone Christian Academy, a 300-student grade school and high school.
In 1989, he founded L.E.A.D. Ministries (Leadership Enrichment And Development) housed in the Moorehead Manor in New Concord, Ohio. The program has ministered to over 1,000 Christian leaders and wives who have come for the week long program of counseling and renewal.
He enjoys a widespread ministry of conference speaking and conducts seminars across the country. He has taught hundreds of pastors in biblical counseling in a seminar format and enjoys an active teaching role as adjuct professor of biblical counseling in various Christian colleges at home and abroad.
He is the Chairman of the Master of Arts Program in Biblical Counseling at Northland Baptist Bible College of Dunbar, WI, and teaches regularly in the program.
Specializing in marriage counseling, he has taken the principles used in the counseling chamber to thousands of couples in multiplied seminars on marriage and communication around the United States.
He was a Contributing Editor for Partners in Ministry magazine, and has had numerous articles published in a variety of Christian publications.
He met Sandra, his wife of over 38 years, while attending Bob Jones University together. She is the business manager of the ministry and the right hand partner of Dr. Binney in his work. Their family includes one son, Jonathan, his wife, Melanie, and grandchildren, Isaac and Mikayla.
